La Diana Agricultural Brewery: Artisanal Excellence at Zero Kilometers
The La Diana Agricultural Brewery, located in Isola d'Arbia, in the heart of the Sienese hills, represents an exemplary model of zero-kilometer craft beer production. Founded in 2014, it is the first agricultural brewery in the province of Siena and stands out for its deep connection to the territory and local brewing traditions.
The name itself, La Diana, has a strong symbolic link to the city of Siena, evoking the myth of the underground river that flows beneath the city. This connection tells not only the story but also the vocation of the brewery, which celebrates the richness and authenticity of the territory through every single production.
A Production Rooted in the Sienese Territory
The secret of La Diana’s beers lies in the meticulous attention to the choice of ingredients. About 75% of the barley used actually comes from the hills between Siena and Pienza and is artisanally malted at a farm in Buonconvento, managed by one of the founding partners. This approach ensures a short supply chain and the preservation of the typical organoleptic characteristics of the Sienese land.
The production facility, modern and functional, is equipped with a 5-hectoliter system with temperature-controlled fermenters. A distinctive element of the brewery is the presence of a section dedicated to wood aging, using selected barrels to impart unique and complex aromas to the beers, making each production an original and distinctive sensory experience.
Recognized Quality Beers and a Range That Tells Tradition
Among the most celebrated creations of the La Diana Brewery are beers awarded on a national level:
- Rubuslurm, a fruit beer that won first prize in its category at the 2024 Birra dell’Anno competition by Unionbirrai.
- Ester, a Belgian Strong Ale enriched with heather honey, celebrated in editions of Slow Food’s Guide to the Beers of Italy.
Each of these beers tells a story of tradition, innovation, and respect for raw materials.
The brewery is open for direct sales from Monday to Friday, with hours that allow both purchases and the opportunity to closely discover all phases of production. It is a place where the love for craft beer translates into products capable of expressing the cultural and agricultural identity of Siena, interpreted with passion and expertise.
