Birrificio Artigianale della Presila: Excellence and Calabrian Brewing Tradition

The Birrificio Artigianale della Presila, also known as Gladium, is a jewel of Calabrian brewing tradition born in the heart of Zagarise, a small agricultural town located in the lush Presila Catanzarese. Founded on January 4, 2012, this microbrewery has won over enthusiasts and connoisseurs thanks to the use of highest quality raw materials and careful artisanal craftsmanship.

The pure and mineral water that springs from the nearby Sila National Park represents the beating heart of Gladium, an essential element that supports the production of genuine beers with a distinctive character. The project was born from the passion of Anselmo Verrino, a computer and biomedical engineer, who after studying at prestigious Italian universities decided to turn his passion for craft beer into a concrete job, specializing in the craft of brewing and creating a unique family business in the Calabrian landscape.

In 2018, the addition of Lucia Franco enriched the project with essential skills in marketing, communications, and commercial management, bringing the brewery to consolidate its presence in the territory and effectively and transparently tell its story. Attention to detail and respect for tradition are reflected in the production process, based on artisanal methods that enhance the quality of the final product.

Gladium Beers: A Journey Through Authentic and Natural Flavors

Gladium does not simply produce beers, but true sensory experiences, characterized by a production that excludes filtering, pasteurization, preservatives, and artificial additives. The natural carbonation occurs through a second fermentation that keeps the yeast characteristics alive, giving each beer a rich body, intense aroma, and high digestibility.

The brewery currently offers six labels that tell the story of the territory and the creativity of its founders:

• Hera: Golden Ale with a golden yellow, slightly hazy color, malted and fruity aroma, and a balanced taste, slightly bitter on the finish.
• WhiteLady: Clear Bavarian Weizen, soft in foam and rich in banana and clove aromas, with a smooth and spicy flavor.
• 1059: Belgian Ale with an amber color, notes of ripe fruit and spices, and a complex, enveloping, and pleasantly sweet taste.
• Symphony: Belgian Strong Dark Ale ruby red, slightly hazy, with hints of caramel, stewed fruit, and spices, and a full and persistent taste.
• Darkana: Dark Robust Porter, with roasted coffee and dark chocolate aromas, a full-bodied, bitter, intense, and long-lasting flavor.
• Happy Venus: Golden Rye & Rice IPA, characterized by an aromatic mix of citrus and spices, with a delicate bitterness and a refreshing finish.
