BiRen Birrificio Renazzese: German Tradition and Italian Innovation in Dosso
In the heart of Dosso, a hamlet of Sant'Agostino in the province of Ferrara, BiRen Birrificio Renazzese was born, an artisanal company that combines the deep German brewing tradition with a fresh and innovative Italian approach. Founded in 2008 by Andrea Govoni, a passionate connoisseur of bottom-fermented beers, the brewery took its first steps with a home all-grain system, growing over time to become an essential point of reference for all craft beer lovers.
Production stands at around 1,500 hectoliters per year, with a rich and varied catalog composed of 18 beers, divided into:
- classic beers
- seasonal beers
- premium beers
Among the most appreciated are Philippe, a Pilsner that won second place as Keller Pils at the European Beer Stars 2020, and Renazzenfest, a Märzen with a strong character evoking the warm atmosphere of Oktoberfest. Hop lovers can enjoy Ton, an IPA with a lively and enveloping personality.
BiRen’s seasonal beers represent genuine tasting experiences, thanks to selected ingredients and original pairings such as:
- Robby, a sour cherry beer with an intense and fruity flavor
- Sabine, enriched with saba from the Mariotti winery
- Melanie, a delicious beer made with forest honeydew honey
La Taverna del BiRen: Taste and Hospitality Just Steps from the Brewery
Opposite the brewery, at Via Statale 365/D, stands La Taverna del BiRen, a resto-pub that completes the visitors’ experience by offering an informal and warm environment where to sample all the craft beers directly on tap. The draft system has 14 taps, ensuring a wide selection of fresh and ever-evolving beers.
The menu, inspired by Tyrolean tradition, offers hearty and flavorful dishes, perfect to accompany the different beers:
- Fassona beef hamburgers
- succulent steak cuts
- tasty ribs
- shank cooked in smoked beer
This combination of flavors and aromas makes each visit an authentic journey through quality ingredients and passion for good beer.
BiRen stands out for its philosophy that preserves the goodness of the “German way of drinking,” focusing on bottom-fermented beers but never giving up experimenting with new styles and aromas. It is this harmony between tradition and innovation that makes the brewery a true excellence in the Italian craft beer scene, able to satisfy both those deeply familiar with the world of beers and those approaching these unique beverages for the first time.
