Birrificio Rurale, located at Via del Commercio 2 in Desio, represents a prominent reality in the Italian craft beer scene. Founded in 2009 by the enthusiasm of five passionate beer lovers—Giuseppe Serafini, Lorenzo Guarino, Luca Franceschi, Marco Caccia, and Stefano Carnelli—it took its first steps in Oltrepò Pavese before moving, in 2013, to the lively province of Monza and Brianza. This relocation marked a significant evolution, increasing production and expanding the offer without ever losing sight of quality and artisanal care.
In 2024, the annual production reached about 4,000 hectoliters, a result that underlines the growing popularity of a brewery that has always aimed for excellence through the use of high-quality local raw materials. Among these stand out unmalted wheat from Brianza and the precious peels of Calabrian citrus fruits, ingredients that give the beers a unique character, rich in freshness and authenticity.
The Iconic Beers of Birrificio Rurale
The range of beers signed by Birrificio Rurale is varied and capable of satisfying the most demanding tastes, never renouncing originality and tradition. Among the most appreciated creations are:
- Seta: a slightly spiced and drinkable Wit-Blanche, made with unmalted wheat from Brianza, Calabrian bitter orange peel, and coriander, perfect for those who love fresh and aromatic beers.
- Global IPA: an American IPA that combines English and German malts with a generous hopping of American hops, capable of offering an intense and enveloping taste experience.
- Little Fifteen: a gluten-free Session IPA, created to celebrate the brewery’s 15th anniversary and included in the Brewer’s Collection project, which represents a path of continuous research and innovation.
- Modern Bitter: a contemporary interpretation of the classic English Bitter, enriched with Crystal hops, which gives it a harmonious and intriguing character.
One of the most original examples of the production is the Triple Pepper, a Belgian Tripel reinterpreted with Andelimane pepper from the island of Sumatra. With an alcohol content of 8.8%, this golden beer combines the fruity and spicy profile of the Belgian style with a surprising citrus freshness, becoming the ideal companion for rich dishes such as Lombard Cassoeula or typical sweets like Panettone and Colomba.
A Meeting Place: The Rurale Taproom
Birrificio Rurale is not only production but also hospitality and sharing. Its Taproom, open from Thursday to Sunday, offers about 60 seats in a warm and convivial environment. Here you can enjoy up to five rotating taps, as well as a selection of bottled and canned beers, including specialties born from the Rurale Collaborative Series project, which directly involves customers in the creation of recipes.
A feature that makes the Taproom even more inviting is the possibility to bring your own food or to use the food delivery service thanks to collaborations with partner venues, for a complete and informal experience that centers on the pleasure of craft beer and conviviality.
