Funky Drop Craft Brewery: The Artisan Excellence of Reggio Calabria

Located in the heart of Reggio Calabria, Funky Drop is an artisan microbrewery born in 2021 from the union of four passionate friends: Domenico, Demetrio, Pietro, and Angelo. Their experience in the world of craft beer blends with the love for the Calabrian land, giving life to beers that tell a story of tradition, innovation, and territory.

With a production capacity of 15 hectoliters and an annual output of about 900 hectoliters, Funky Drop stands out for its ability to combine classic and international brewing models with a unique local touch. The brewery’s philosophy ranges between bottom and top fermentations, drawing inspiration from German, English, Belgian, and American styles, while enriching them with Calabrian aromas and ingredients, thus creating products that surprise for originality and quality.

A Universe of Authentic Flavors and Aromas

Among the brewery’s most representative beers are some creations that well embody Funky Drop’s philosophy:

• Plink: a Kellerbier with bottom fermentation that pays homage to the German tradition, fresh and easy to drink.
• Prsdè: a Saison that enchants thanks to the addition of fresh bergamot from Reggio Calabria, a distinctive element that delivers a unique and irresistible aroma.
• Bad Scott: an Export Scotch Ale with dark malts and intense aromas, enriched with candied sugar, for those seeking a fuller experience.
• Fuzzy: a Golden Strong Ale that combines Belgian tradition with modern influences, harmonious and full of character.

In March 2023, Funky Drop inaugurated its new tap room, a cozy and homely space that recalls the atmosphere of a grandmother’s house, where visitors can taste the beers directly and immerse themselves in the brewery’s universe.

The involvement in the cultural and beer life of the region also manifested through active participation in the Craft Beer Week, during which Funky Drop hosted guided tours of the production and packaging facilities, opening its doors to enthusiasts and curious visitors.

Recognitions and Awards That Tell of Quality and Passion

The dedication and commitment of the brewery have been recognized at both regional and national levels. In 2023, Funky Drop won the title of Calabria’s Best Brewery of the Year with the BeerCalabria award, highlighting the importance of a project that enhances local excellences with a contemporary vision.

No less significant is the success of 'Plink,' which took first place in the light bottom-fermented beers category at the Birra dell’Anno 2024 competition. A result that confirms the meticulous attention to quality and production consistency, essential elements in the craft beer world.
