Santu Jorgi Microbrewery: The Artisan Heart of Sardinia in Bitti
In the enchanting landscape of Sardinia, in Bitti, stands the Santu Jorgi microbrewery, a true crossroads between local tradition and brewing innovation. Founded in April 2016 by Andrea Chirra, a craft beer enthusiast since his university days, this family-run brewery aims to be a genuine ambassador of Sardinian culture and identity in the world of craft beers.
The name Santu Jorgi is inspired by the historic district of Bitti bearing the same name, a symbol of pride and deep local roots. The logo, a strongly evocative element, represents sa kintolgia, the traditional male belt of the Sardinian costume, finely crafted in leather and decorated with the hop flower and barley ears, the essential ingredients for beer production. This belt also ideally wraps around the bottle label, recalling the security and pride of the people of Bitti.
The Production and Beers of Santu Jorgi
The soul of the brewery lies in the use of local raw materials carefully selected, including hops grown directly on their own land. The result is a range of top-fermentation beers that express the essence of the Sardinian territory and the passion of those who produce them. The selection includes five craft beers with a unique character:
- Triku: a pale beer inspired by Belgian traditions, with a Sardinian name meaning 'grain', a true symbol of life and abundance;
- Braia: an amber beer that evokes the red embers of the hearth, rich in warmth and hospitality;
- Tzulla: an American Pale Ale embodying the vital energy and strength of Sardinian nature;
- Donosa: a fresh, light, and fragrant blanche that evokes the purity of island landscapes;
- Uresi: a Baltic Porter paying homage to the ancient brewing traditions of Northern Europe, with a strong and deep character.
Beyond quality production, Santu Jorgi offers a warm welcome in its small pub, where it is possible to taste the different beers accompanied by platters of typical local products. Here, every sip becomes a sensory journey discovering the cultural roots of Bitti, an experience that embraces aromas, flavors, and stories of a unique land.
This microbrewery is not just a place of production but a true point of reference for the community and craft beer enthusiasts, made of passion, tradition, and attention to quality in every detail. A reality capable of uniting the best of Sardinia in a glass, proudly enhancing the territory and its history.
