Via Priula Brewery: Tradition and Innovation in the Heart of the Brembana Valley
In the picturesque setting of San Pellegrino Terme, at 77 Bernardo Tasso Street, stands the Via Priula Brewery, an artisanal establishment founded on August 1, 2010, by two friends, Giovanni Fumagalli and Mauro Zilli. Their long experience in homebrewing transformed into a business venture aimed at enhancing the Brembana Valley territory, rich in history and traditions. The brewery’s very name recalls the famous Via Priula, the ancient 16th-century trade route that connected Bergamo to Morbegno, a tangible symbol of the bond with local culture.
Over the years, the brewery has undergone significant growth. After an initial phase as a 'beer firm,' producing beers on other breweries’ equipment, in 2018, thanks to the partnership of Alberto Bosio and head brewer Riccardo Redaelli, an independent 10-hectoliter production plant was inaugurated right in San Pellegrino Terme. This choice allowed Via Priula Brewery to consolidate its style and beer quality, always maintaining a strong connection to the territory and its resources.
Craft Beers and Commitment to Sustainability
Production features a diversified range of craft beers, ranging from classic pilsner and doppelbock to more complex brews such as imperial stout and blanche, enriched with the use of small fruits, aromatic herbs, and spices. One of the most appreciated creations is “Rosa!”, a raspberry-flavored wheat beer, with a light and refreshing taste, perfect to accompany an aperitif.
At Via Priula Brewery, however, the focus is not only on quality and experimentation: the company also stands out for its strong commitment to environmental sustainability. Renewable energy is used in production, and brewing by-products are given new life by being donated to local farms for animal feed or used as natural fertilizers. This approach reflects the desire to combine tradition, respect for the territory, and attention to the ecosystem.
Since 2012, the brewery has also operated a venue in San Pellegrino Terme, a space where beers can be tasted directly at the source, paired with dishes prepared with local ingredients according to typical Brembana Valley recipes. Here one breathes a warm and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for discovering and appreciating the best of Bergamo’s gastronomic culture combined with craft beers.
Via Priula Brewery also plays an active role in promoting craft beer culture, participating in the organization of events such as the 'BeerGhèm' festival, a beloved appointment in the Bergamo area that celebrates beer and local craftsmanship. With an annual production of about 600 hectoliters, it confirms itself as one of the emerging protagonists in the Italian brewing scene, bringing its beers not only to Italy but also to international markets such as England and Japan.
