Leumann Brewery: Passion and Tradition in Craft Beer from Grugliasco
Located at Via Fabbrichetta 56, in Grugliasco, Leumann Brewery is a tangible example of how dedication and love for craft beer can transform a local reality into a benchmark in the Piedmont brewing scene. Founded in 2014 by Fabrizio Mungo, who had already reinvented a bocciodrome into a cozy pub back in 1985, the brewery has evolved over time thanks to the involvement of his sister Franca and nephew Alessandro, a certified brewmaster, who brought expertise and innovation while maintaining a close link to tradition.
In 2021, faced with growing demand, production was moved to a century-old warehouse adjacent to the Leumann village, a place rich in history and industrial culture, completely renovated to accommodate a 12-hectoliter system and a larger cellar. This move allowed for increased production capacity without ever giving up the artisanal process that distinguishes every beer produced.
Beers and Specialties of Leumann Brewery
Leumann Brewery’s beers are inspired by classic European styles and made exclusively with selected high-quality raw materials, which highlight the unique character of each label. Among the main permanent products are:
- Smemorata: a blond ale with a straw-yellow color and white, compact foam. On the nose, delicate cereal notes; on the palate, a precise balance between sweetness and hop bitterness (4.5% vol.).
- Italica: a helles bock with a golden color and persistent foam, featuring aromatic nuances of honey and caramel that give a warm, enveloping sweetness (6.3% vol.).
- Rubino: an intense amber English bitter with citrus aromas; on the palate, hints of bread crust and grapefruit make it a robust yet balanced beer (5.5% vol.).
- Birra del Matto: a doppelbock with a vibrant copper-red color and cream-colored foam; notable for aromas of red fruits, roasted malt, and spices, with a warm and full-bodied texture given by its 8.3% alcohol content.
Not just beer: Leumann Brewery has expanded its range with the Amaro del Matto, a liqueur made from the wort of Birra del Matto and a blend of bitter herbs macerated in grain alcohol. In collaboration with the local bakery Zuccarello, 'Birrucci' cookies were created using leftover brewers’ grains—perfect to enjoy alongside the amaro for a complete taste experience.
At the same address is also the Leumann Pizzificio, which from Wednesday to Sunday, 7 PM to 11 PM, offers high-quality pizzas in a friendly and family atmosphere. The adjoining pub completes the experience by welcoming beer enthusiasts to a warm and informal setting where all labels can be tasted fresh from the source.
Leumann Brewery is a virtuous example of how artisanal tradition can blend with entrepreneurial skills and innovation, giving rise to authentic products that tell the story and culture of Italian brewing with constant attention to quality and consumer experience.
