Hordeum Craft Brewery: the Excellence of Craft Beer in Novara
Located at number 120 Corso Vercelli in Novara, Hordeum Craft Brewery stands out as a benchmark in the Italian microbrewery scene. Founded in 2014 by a group of enthusiasts including Marco Mario Avanza, Filippo Alessandro Serra, Roberto Lentini, Marco Diana, and Paolo Carbone, Hordeum represents a perfect blend of tradition, innovation, and love for the local territory.
The name 'Hordeum,' which in Latin means barley, encapsulates the essence of a project rooted in the quality of local raw materials and in the enhancement of Piedmont’s agricultural tradition. Every beer produced by Hordeum is a story born from a deep connection to the land and from the desire to express its unique characteristics through an authentic and recognizable flavor.
Hordeum Beers: Quality, Diversity, and Sustainability
Among the brewery’s most emblematic offerings is the Magica line, a family of beers that celebrates local excellences and Piedmontese rice varieties used as key ingredients. The four variants are distinguished by features that make them true artisanal excellences:
- Blonde: inspired by Bavarian lagers, it is fresh and thirst-quenching. The use of Carnaroli Rice gives it a unique lightness with a clean and dry finish.
- Gluten Free: a beer designed for those with intolerances, with a high percentage of Carnaroli Rice allowing enjoyment of an artisanal product without compromise on flavor.
- I.P.A.: the first 'rice IPA' made with Apollo Rice, characterized by intense citrus aromas and tropical notes, delivering a bold and perfectly balanced taste.
- Amber: inspired by the Vienna tradition, it is brewed with Ermes Rice, which gives it a reddish color and an intense, enveloping aromatic bouquet.
Hordeum’s commitment goes beyond producing high-quality beers: the brewery stands out for its deep respect for the environment and sustainability. Thanks to the adoption of eco-friendly technologies, such as the RCBR purifier for safeguarding groundwater, and participation in UNESCO’s MAB (Man and the Biosphere) project, Hordeum sources at least 70% of ingredients from protected areas, thus earning the prestigious 'MAB Ticino Valley' certification.
The site at Corso Vercelli 120 is much more than a production facility: it is an open space for craft beer enthusiasts, who can take part in guided tours and tastings to discover every stage of the brewing process. The brewery is also situated in a context rich in history and culture, offering visitors a complete and engaging experience that combines flavors, territory, and tradition.
