Beltaine Microbrewery: Artisan Excellence in the Heart of the Bolognese Apennines

In the enchanting setting of the Bolognese Apennines, in Granaglione, lies the Beltaine microbrewery, a point of reference for those who love quality craft beers and the enhancement of the local territory. Since 2004, Beltaine has been producing beers with a unique character, made with typical local ingredients that tell the story and tradition of this mountainous area.

The brewery is housed in a place full of charm: the old village school, on Via G. Marconi 4, a building loaded with historical memories that today hosts all stages of production, from brewing to labeling. Every step is carefully and passionately managed to guarantee authentic, high-quality beers capable of surprising and winning over every palate.

The Philosophy of Beltaine and Its Craft Beers

Beltaine’s true strength lies in the conscious and respectful use of local resources. Special emphasis is placed on two natural excellences: chestnuts and spelt, which are fully incorporated into the production, giving the beers a distinctive and original character. This deep bond with nature is reflected in six varieties, each with a well-defined style and taste:

  • La Bianca: a wheat pale beer, enriched with a delicate chestnut aroma, fresh and slightly acidic in taste.
  • La Nera: a double malt with smoked chestnuts and juniper, intense and spicy in flavor, perfect for those who love bold notes.
  • La Gialla: a special amber with chestnuts, characterized by peppery and citrus hints that make it lively and harmonious.
  • Aurum: a pale beer with coppery reflections, flavored with herbs, for a delicate and refreshing taste.
  • Cuprum: a double malt spelt beer, enriched with herbs and citrus, featuring a lingering bitterness that leaves a mark.
  • InvernAle: a dark beer with ruby highlights, flavored with licorice and fruit, inspired by the Belgian Strong Dark Ale style, enveloping and complex.

The name itself, Beltaine, evokes an ancient Celtic rite celebrating the rebirth of nature and the arrival of the warm season, a symbol of cyclicality and vitality. The logo, known as the “lover’s knot,” also recalls the idea of continuity and the eternal interweaving of life and nature, central elements in the brewery’s philosophy.

In addition to producing excellent beer, Beltaine is actively committed to the cultural and environmental promotion of the territory, organizing events such as “Beltaine Spring: the Awakening of the Forest” and “Beltaine Harvest: from the Forest to the Beer.” These initiatives allow visitors and enthusiasts to immerse themselves in local traditions, also participating in the chestnut harvest, the aromatic heart of Beltaine beers.

The microbrewery enjoys an excellent national reputation, with numerous awards at the Italian Craft Beer Championship and recognitions from Slow Food. A success that reflects the dedication and passion of brewmaster Marco and his team, who every day transform local raw materials into authentic taste experiences, telling a precious piece of Italy’s most genuine side.
