Santu Jorgi Microbrewery: Tradition and Passion in the Heart of Sardinia
In the beating heart of Sardinia, in Bitti, lies the Santu Jorgi microbrewery, a craft excellence that skillfully blends tradition and innovation. Founded in April 2016 by Andrea Chirra, a passionate connoisseur of craft beer since his university days, this family-run brewery embodies the authenticity and Sardinian culture in every product.
The name Santu Jorgi is a tribute to the historic district of Bitti, rooted in the territory and in the heart of the local community. The logo, inspired by “sa kintolgia”, the traditional male belt of the Sardinian costume, encloses the symbolism of craft beer: the hop flower and barley ears, key elements of brewing, are elegantly represented with brocade colors, recalling the pride and identity of those who wear them.
A Craft Production Connected to the Territory
The strength of Santu Jorgi lies in the use of top-quality local raw materials. The hops come from their own lands, enhancing the Sardinian terroir and guaranteeing unique and distinctive flavors. The range of beers produced is a sensory journey that reflects the variety and richness of the regional brewing tradition:
- Triku: a pale beer inspired by ancient Belgian traditions, with a name that means “grain” in Sardinian, symbolizing life and prosperity.
- Braia: an amber beer with a warm and enveloping character, evocative of the red glow of the domestic hearth.
- Tzulla: an energetic and lively American Pale Ale, embodying the essence of the Sardinian land.
- Donosa: a fresh and bright blanche, capable of conveying the uncontaminated purity of the local landscapes.
- Uresi: an intense and enveloping Baltic Porter, a tribute to the brewing traditions of Northern Europe.
The microbrewery is not only about production but also a place of meeting and conviviality. The attached pub space, cozy and well-kept, allows visitors to savor the beers accompanied by boards of typical local products, offering a complete experience that celebrates the cultural roots of Bitti.
The passion and dedication of Andrea Chirra and his family are felt in every detail, from the selection of raw materials to the artisanal care of fermentation, up to the presentation of each single bottle. Santu Jorgi is today an essential reality in the Sardinian microbrewery scene, capable of combining the richness of tradition with the boldness of innovation.
